George Rogers Clark Historical Plaque

This bronze marker at Old Fort Harrod State Park honors George Rogers Clark (1752–1818), the Revolutionary War hero whose bold leadership secured the vast Northwest Territory for the United States. Clark’s strategic vision, courage, and frontier knowledge enabled his successful Illinois Campaign—an effort conceived in part at Old Fort Harrod—that ultimately brought the lands between the Ohio River and the Great Lakes under American control. Installed in 1927 by the Woman’s Club of Harrodsburg, the plaque commemorates Clark’s enduring legacy as a patriot, explorer, and architect of America’s early western expansion.
